Assignment 9 - Video/Visual Variety
Posted in Assignments on October 30th, 2007 by Jenn AckermanDue Tues. Nov. 6
For this assignment you will be shooting video. I am not so much concerned with your ability to make a full-length movie as I your ability to move throughout a scene, create visual variety and understand image sequencing. With that said, I am requiring wide, panoramic, medium, tight, detail, and portrait shots. I don’t want you to get bogged up in the format so use what you know about photography and use the same devices and compositional techniques we have discussed throughout the quarter. Video is a great way to reveal your knowledge and ability to produce visual variety.
Decide on a partner you can work with and divide the shooting in half. As a team you only need to 3-4 minutes of film varying images from loose to tight, splitting the time with your partner.
You need to buy one Mini DV tape which you can buy at Walmart or CVS. Please buy a name brand DV tape.
In order to show your video in class, please rewind the tape to a place where we can see visual variety for 30 seconds. During this 30 seconds I want to see that you can tell me something using different types of shots. Ultimately, I want to see the most interesting and most successful
segment.
Shoot in auto and concentrate on composition and visual sequencing.
Make sure you charge the batteries for the next team.
